The Secret To Vintage Styling

It was the golden era of grace, elegance and style – but you'll be glad to know that glamour from bygone eras hasn’t disappeared entirely; in fact, it’s making a marked revival with modern day stylistas coveting the impeccible style of our mothers and grandmothers.

Want to know how to perfect this look? Miss Chrissy from the
Lindy Charm School teaches a few tricks for that 1940s glamour, 50’s cheesecake or retro style.
1. The Outfit
Pick the vintage era that you like best. You Will feel more comfortable wearing what you like rather than wearing what others like or whatever you think you should be wearing to fit in!
Dress For your shape. Remember your foundation garments; original vintage was made with undergarments in mind.

2. The Accessories

Hat, gloves, handbag, jewellery and shoes. All or just some of these things are necessary to complete any vintage look, the fashion of the time was all about the details. Ensure that the accents of your accessories enhance the overall look of the outfit and not overpower it. Wearing a beautiful vintage suit or frock without accessorising will just leave the outfit wanting more.

3. The Make Up

a. Flawless foundation – think blank canvass up which to create a work of art.
b. Pencil brows to shape the face
c. Add a splash of colour to the apples of your cheeks, Baby Pink is always a fresh you8thful and healthy colour on cheeks.
d. Winged eyeliner. Not an absolute necessity, but if you have the eyes for it and can pull it off, it does look smashing! Be sure to go light during the day and heavier at night.
e. Create the perfect pout. Use your brush to get the cleanest of coverage. If your lips are on the thin side don’t be afraid to line outside your natural lip line and similarly if your lips are voluminous then line on the natural lip line or just under. It’s the illusion of the perfect pout that is created with these tricks.

4. The Hair

Impeccably styled hair is an important part of polishing off your vintage look. The Long Pageboy, or Barrel Roll look were outrageously popular at the time, and now we have all the technology at our finger tips to create these looks with a lot less fuss. Research some hair styles and have a go yourself, or better yet, enroll in a Lindy Charm School class and learn how!

5. The Posture

Check your posture and stand up straight – have you poise when you walk out of that door? Slumping or poor posture can make you look and feel sluggish. “Straighten up and fly right”, so the song says…

Lastly, have you got the most important addition to your outfit, your winning smile? Don’t leave home without it!
