The summer season is about to come
to an end. Though we eagerly await the first monsoon shower, the
sweltering heat leaves its mark on our skin in the form of a suntan.
Many people brush it aside thinking that it will wear off on its own
once the monsoon arrives but the truth is, it can make your skin look
dull and not doing anything about it can lead to further tanning due to
other external factors such as pollution, dust, etc. But you can give
your skin a de-tan by using common kitchen ingredients such as lemon
juice, rose water, etc. Here are five such natural remedies to get rid
of a suntan.
Potato
Potato has natural bleaching properties which can help lighten the tan a great deal. To make a face pack, peel the skin of a potato and then grate it. Now add some rose water to it. You can also add a few drops of honey if you dry skin. Apply it on your face for at least 15 minutes and then wash away with water.
Lemon juice
Lemon juice is easily available and can be very handy when you have to remove tan from your face or any other body part. You can simple apply the juice of a lemon on the skin directly or even add other ingredients to it to make a de-tan pack. Here’s what all you can add. Mix honey and lemon juice together to make a pack and then apply it on your skin. Leave the mixture for 15 minutes and then wash it off with water. Glycerine is another ingredient you can mix with lemon juice. It is quite effective and gives your skin a good glow instantly.
Aloe vera
Not only does aloe vera have cooling and soothing properties, it also helps in removing suntan. You can use its juice or gel which are easily available in the market these days. Mix a tablespoon of fuller’s earth (multani mitti) and a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi) in it. Add some rose water if you use the gel to dilute the pack. Now apply the pack on your face and neck and leave it to dry. After that you can wash your face with water and pat dry the skin.
Gram flour or besan
Besan and haldi is usually applied on the skin of a bride-to-be to make her skin glow. This same remedy comes in handy when you want to get rid of your summer tan. Take some besan and add milk and haldi to it. Make sure the paste isn’t too watery. Apply it on your face and even your hands and legs if they are tanned before you go for a bath. Let it dry and then take a shower with lukewarm water. Towel-dry the skin gently.
Cucumber juice
This cooling face pack will leave your skin feeling fresh and glowing. Apply a mixture of cucumber juice, rose water and a dash of lemon juice. You can add a spoonful of curd if you have dry skin to make a moisturising pack. Wash it after 15 minutes of application.
These home-made face packs are made using natural ingredients but you will need to use them regularly to see visible results. You haven’t got the tan in a day so it will take at least a week for you to get rid of it. Apply the pack weekly once or twice and get your skin’s glow back.
